Our Directors

The Team is dedicated to making the Bay of Colwyn a better place for business.  The Directors are all volunteers, tasked with assisting the BID team to deliver on the business plan, promoting the area and boosting our potential.

Jay Martin

Crest Co-operative
Chairman

My day job is as the Strategic Business Development Manager for Crest Co-operative, a social enterprise organisation based in both Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Junction. My role enables me to fulfil my personal aim to making a positive contribution to the community in which I work and play; developing and supporting sustainable employment, training and volunteering opportunities for local people, many of whom are experiencing social and economic isolation.

Previously I had run my own small landscaping business and worked evenings for Conwy Youth Service. I am passionate about all sectors of the community working together to improve our local environment and social / economic prospects for all; together, communities are stronger and more resilient to negative economic and social change. I have lived in Conwy for 25 years; I am married and have a daughter, a dog and a passion for motorbikes.

Steve Griffiths

Supertemps Ltd
Vice Chair

I am the Business Development Director at Supertemps Ltd and S2 Recruitment. I am a commercially driven operations professional with a proven track record in developing businesses & achieving excellent results. I have experience working in large corporate organisations in Manchester & London. It was during this time commuting that I became aware of the importance of the travel network along the North Wales coastline and recognised the Bay of Colwyn as a central hub ideally located for business growth and development.

Although I have lived in Anglesey all my life, the Bay of Colwyn is a place very close to my heart. I have a home here in Colwyn Bay, my daughter is educated here and I have worked here for over 12 years.  I am passionate about the regeneration of the local area and with improved infrastructure and facilities, we could see the Bay of Colwyn develop & thrive. As a director I promise to be a contributing member ensuring delivery of projects in line with the Business Plan.

Jennifer Whitlock

Le Sport Health & Fitness

I run Le Sport Health & Fitness in Rhos on Sea with my husband Phil. I believe a healthy lifestyle is paramount and try to help others who share the same passion.

We took the business over in 1996 with just 50 members. Now, we have over 63,000 bringing a lot of people into the village who also use the other shops, cafes and businesses. We are an integral part of the community and we offer fitness for all at affordable prices.

I have been Chairman of Sport Conwy (the local Sports Council) and the North Wales Performance Group, both voluntary positions in the sports sector, where the emphasis was on promoting sport as a lifestyle and assisting elite performers with regards discrimination because they resided in the North.

I am a true believer in equality and fairness. Openness and transparency are key to everything I do and am involved in.  I am keen to ensure that the Bay of Colwyn area continues its regeneration and in particular that Rhos on Sea thrives as a village that attracts, not only visitors, but also new businesses, so that our community is strengthened.

David Thornley

Thornley Leisure Parks

Thornley Leisure Parks is a family run business with over 55 years’ experience operating holiday parks across North Wales, Cheshire and North Yorkshire, with our Head Office in Colwyn Bay and premises in Mochdre.

I have a long connection with Colwyn Bay having been brought up and educated here with a passion for wanting to see the town grow into a thriving economic centre, accommodating both plentiful retail and hospitality businesses to leading professional and corporate services.

We are situated in a beautiful part of the world and it is great to see Colwyn Bay endeavoring to re-establish itself as one of the major towns in North Wales.

I sit as committee member for our local branch of the BH&HPA and have represented our area on the National Executive Committee. I also sit as a member of the Destination Conwy Steering Group.

Will Blackwell

SiteQuest Offices Ltd

I am a Director of SiteQuest Offices LTD. I have been working primarily in Mochdre for the past 12 years, initially on development and new build projects.

Over the last 6/7 years we have transitioned into investment and redevelopment of existing units.

I have watched first-hand how Mochdre has grown into a prosperous business hub and I would like to play a part in its exciting and evolving future. I believe being part of the BID team gives me that opportunity.

Peter Blundell

CBI Insurance

I started CBI Insurance 26 years ago as a sole trader and have remained director since incorporating the company in 2003. I am keen to see the rebirth of the area which is long overdue. Colwyn Bay needs to attract more of its residents to shop here; to do that we need a wider variety of retailers to occupy empty shops outside of the Bay View Centre.

Cllr Louise Emery

Conwy Council

Cabinet Member for Economic Development for the Council, Louise also works in the commercial property industry and brings her knowledge and expertise of the private sector to grow the economy of Conwy.
